First Day of School!

I cannot fathom how Avery has been on this earth long enough to be going off to kindergarten. We have full-day kindergarten here in SC, so there was lots of newness associated with this milestone. New teachers, new friends, buses, cafeterias, new school supplies, early wakeups, longer school days, much older kids, much bigger campus, way less supervision. Avery was so excited and Mommy was so nervous. And Mason only asked about every 10 minutes when Avery was coming home.

We are all still adjusting to the new routines, but we're off to a good start. Miss Independent likes to set her alarm and get up on her own in the morning. The second day of school she told me "Mommy, I heard my alarm go off and I said to myself: Kindergarten, here I come!"

The official first day pic.

Ready to go!

Daddy took her to school the first day and walked her into her classroom.

Mason and Mommy waited at the bus stop for Avery to come home. This is Mason listening for the bus.

She's home!

The sibling love lasted about four minutes before they found something to fight about.

After the first day, Avery wanted to ride the bus instead of riding with Daddy. So on Day 2, she rode the bus to school and found her classroom all by her big bad self!

Day 3. I don't know when I will be able to start resisting the urge to take her picture. She looks so darn cute waiting for the bus.

The following week was Mason's turn for firsts, as he began his first day of Pre-K at his new preschool. It turns out that Mommy's car is a really, REALLY sorry substitute for the school bus. Three weeks later, Mason is still bitter that he doesn't get to ride the bus. He does like his new school, though, and seems to have jumped right in with his new teachers, new friends, and new activities.

All ready for his first day!

Walking in like a big boy. He wanted to carry his own backpack and NOT hold my hand. Sigh.
